Oban

The Gateway to the Isles

The Stevenson brothers built their distillery in 1794, before the town of Oban even existed. The town literally grew up around the distillery. During construction of the visitor centre in 1890, workers discovered a cave containing Mesolithic human remains dating to 4,500 BC.

Oban's small stills and limited production capacity have kept it a connoisseur's favourite rather than a mass-market brand. The 14 Year Old remains the definitive West Highland malt.

The Story

Founded 1794

The Oban Style

Maritime yet honeyed — Oban sits exactly between Highland sweetness and Island brine. The small stills produce a rich, oily spirit that carries both sea salt and heather honey beautifully.
