Cardhu

The Golden Heart of Johnnie Walker

Helen Cumming began illicitly distilling on the family farm, warning revenue officers of their approach by raising a red flag so neighbouring distillers could hide their equipment. She took out a licence in 1824 and built a reputation for quality. Her daughter-in-law Elizabeth later sold the distillery to Johnnie Walker.
